Theatrical Wardrobe - Disability Arts and Culture - Paper Collage

Auden Granger is a theatrical wardrobe supervisor and paper collage artist in Albany Park, Chicago.

PAPER COLLAGE: Auden’s intricate, mosaic-like paper collages are made entirely from found and reused paper. A challenge to a profoundly digital and consumerist world, Auden’s work is rooted in disability perspectives that see the beauty in going slow and the inherent artistry in using what you’ve got.

WARDROBE JUSTICE: Auden’s work as a wardrobe supervisor is inspired by the legacy of generations of activism by garment workers for workplace safety. Auden is currently developing a curriculum that emphasizes the ability and responsibility of costume professionals at all points in the theatre hierarchy to work towards social justice and interpersonal care within the particular context of their position (see “Wardrobe Justice”).

CREATIVE IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Auden composes image descriptions of graphic novels, comics, and interpretive works for blind/low vision audiences. Their descriptions are works of creative writing that prioritize the communication of visual elements of theme, emotionality, artistic principles, and fluid storytelling alongside the more concrete aspects of an image.

Their bright blue hair is pulled back into an elegant teal tichel, with matching teal glasses and shimmery blue lipstick. The background is made up of strips of swirling paper in a ombré from deep navy, almost black, to a pale, delicate powder blue.
